Pemaquid 03:18
Buttons, silver cuff links, thimbles, broken combs rusty scissors that once cut a loved one’s hair, grave sites with no markers, and foundations with no homes, it’s all that’s left to show the world that we were there. We came here to this river, three thousand miles from home, to salt the cod and ship it cross the sea. Our brothers, wives and daughters, worked together side by side. We built our homes and raised our families. Now, it’s just… broken of bits of bottles, rusty forks and knives: the remnants of our lives. Oh, that’s all that you’ll find left of who we were and how we lived, as you’re sifting through the fragments on the shores of Pemaquid. Casks of ale from Germany, and jars of oil from Spain, toys for children born three hundred years ago, fans we waved at sweethearts, as we danced all through the night, and what was once a precious ivory comb. Now we’re just . . . broken of bits of bottles, rusty forks and knives: the remnants of our lives. Oh, that’s all that you’ll find left of who we were and how we lived, as you’re sifting through the fragments on the shores of Pemaquid. Oh, you’ll never see our faces, you’ll never hear our songs. all our memories have faded in the mist. But to the children of our children did we pass our legacy, a mother’s love, a father’s tender kiss. broken of bits of bottles, rusty forks and knives: the remnants of our lives. Oh, that’s all that you’ll find left of who we were and how we lived, as you’re sifting through the fragments on the shores of Pemaquid. As you’re sifting through the fragments on the shores of Pemaquid.

Some they say the sky is blue because of scattered light, But I say the sky is blue, because it’s dark at night. And some they say the water’s blue because it captures red, But I say the water’s blue, cause the sky is overhead. You can look at things whichever way you want. You can make things up to fit the life you’ve got. You can write the book that only you will read, Cause it’s just you. Now, some they say the earth is blue ‘cause it’s a lonely place, But I say the earth is blue because she’s full of grace. And Some they say my dog’s named Blue because of some old song, I know why my dog’s named Blue, ‘cause he likes to sing along. You can look at things whichever way you want. You can make things up to fit the life you’ve got. You can write the book that only you will read, Cause it’s just you, It’s only you Now, some they say your eyes are blue, ‘cause your mother had blue eyes, But I say your eyes are blue ‘cause you always watch the skies. And some they say if I were blue, it’s all within my brain, But I know that I’d blue if you took your love away. You can look at things whichever way you want. You can make things up to fit the life you’ve got. You can write the book that only you will read, ‘Cause it’s just you, it’s only you, it’s only you. Some they say the sky is blue because God made it so. I don’t know why the sky is blue and I guess I’ll never know.

Boot Hill 03:38
I've got dust and dirt on my tombstone the desert sand has buried my home I once was a man of flesh and bones but now my soul is bound to roam I marched with Sherman to Savannah I've left many a widow in my wake young men not fully grown never would go home I sent them on past St. Peter's gate If you had known me in my prime would you blame me for my game would you forgive me of my crimes would you ask God to do the same? I shot a sheriff out near Tucson a man who was rotten to the core he was taking bribes and leaving broken lives I couldn't let him live no more Well Folks were quick to call me outlaw I still believe I helped them to this day but I left that town turned upside down with a debt too big to repay If you had known me in my prime would you blame me for my game would you forgive me of my crimes would you ask God to do the same? when I saw the posse coming I threw my hands up to the sky believe it or not I never heard the shot I just knew it was my turn to die Now the wind is blowing through my rib cage it blows with a mournful sound you can visit me still 'cause I'm up here on Boot Hill just a ghost in an old ghost town

Let’s build a fire, Eat some bacon, And drink some rum. That’s all that I want to do When I get home. Oh, When the day, that I spend working is all done I build a fire eat some bacon and drink rum My darlin you, are all I ever want to know and I’d be so sad and lonely if you go but if you stay, I guarantee we’ll have some fun we’ll build a fire eat some bacon and drink some rum. Listen to the sizzle of that pan this feels so right, just hold me tight and tell me you’re my man Oh darlin now, we are so cozy no need to run we’ve got a fire we’re eating bacon we’re drinking rum The fire is slowly burning down to coals we’ll sit here on the sofa and watch the fire’s glow We got some rum We’ve got some bacon We got a fire And I’ve got you and that is all that I desire.

You promised me a world of wealth, you promised me the sun then you laid down all our money on ponies, cards & poker chips and lost more than you’d ever won This goose ain’t layin’ no more, this goose ain’t layin’ no more the nest is a cold as a stone ain’t no use sayin’ sorry this goose is cooked, she’s over done and nothin’s gonna’ bring her back home Your ship was always coming in. you always had an ace in the hole that goose was gonna lay you a pretty golden egg Your promises were hollow as fool’s gold This goose ain’t layin’ no more, this goose ain’t layin’ no more the nest is a cold as a stone ain’t no use sayin’ sorry this goose is cooked, she’s over done and nothin’s gonna’ bring her back home I gave to you my youth, my life, I gave to you my soul But you took everything and you threw it all into the trash and dug us into this great big hole This goose ain’t layin’ no more, this goose ain’t layin’ no more the nest is a cold as a stone ain’t no use sayin’ sorry this goose is cooked, she’s over done and nothin’s gonna’ bring her back home So don’t bother me with words of remorse, don’t try to make up what you done I’m heading out the door and I won’t be comin’ back no more and nothin’s gonna bring me back home This goose ain’t layin’ no more, this goose ain’t layin’ no more the nest is a cold as a stone ain’t no use sayin’ sorry this goose is cooked, she’s over done and nothin’s gonna’ bring her back home Ain’t no use sayin’ soory This goose is cooked she’s overdone And nothin’ gona bring her back home

There’s a man wandering the highway. His face is tired, his clothes are worn Should I stop and try to ease his burden? Should I hope that he will make it home? Should I offer him a place of refuge? Should I walk the path with him a while? Should I ask to hear him tell his story? Should I hope to see him break a smile? should I say Rest here for a moment, take shelter from the storm the night is getting colder, but the fire’s safe and warm You’ve journeyed many long, long miles, with many more to roam So take a moment, close your eyes and dream about home. But for all I dream about my being, the Samaritan in the Good Book When I see that man along the highway, I pass without a second look What if he were like ancient Ulysses? A man far from home and lost at sea. A great hero from an ancient battle. Would I then take heed in who he’d be? Would I say Rest here for a moment, take shelter from the storm the night is getting colder, but the fire’s safe and warm You’ve journeyed many long, long miles, with many more to roam So take a moment, close your eyes and dream about home. Yes, I know that man is not Ulysses, but a soldier he might truly be Travelin’ far along this lonesome highway, as he struggles through his Odyssey And although his god is not Athena, I might pray to her to set him free that the winds might blow him back to safety, to his home and to his family So if you see a man wandering the highway. His face is tired, his clothes are worn Won’t you stop and try to ease his burden? Like Ulysses, he is far from home. Like Ulysses, he is far from home.

July ’69 on the Florida shore We stood on the beach, looking over the sea And there in the distance, a white steak was rising lifting skyward so high til we no longer could see. It was Apollo eleven, I was just seven We stood on that beach as they reached for the sky Shading his eyes, Grandpa watched the scene silently, Hand on his heart and a tear in his eye. Oooo ooooo ooo On the walls of my grandfather’s house, hanging quietly medals of valor and one silver star photos of young men who fought a war valiantly But Grandfather never once spoke of that war Apollo Eleven, they’d all gone to heaven He’d lain on that beach as he watched them all die Memories of soldiers who never left Normandy Hand on his heart and a tear in his eye. Oooo ooooo ooo Grandpa was born on the fourth of July And he’d never forgotten the price that was paid He would stand and salute every flag that went by As we lined up on Main Street to watch the parade. All the years pass, but I clearly recall I sat on the floor in that small living room long-fallen soldiers watched from the walls as On the TV, a man walked on the moon. Apollo Eleven they took us to heaven Our feet left the ground and they taught us to fly Shading his eyes, Grandpa watched the scene silently Hand on his heart, and a tear in his eye.

In the country of the pointed firs, hulls of ships lie rotting on the coast In decaying Maine coast villages, there’s nothin’ left but the mariner’s old ghost once a town of future promises, where great ships sailed out to meet the world nothin’s left but pages written down by a simple northern girl Waters cold and deep and bountiful, Forests tall with the masts that rode the wind Hardened eyes on the horizon gazed, Toughened hands provided for their kin Neighbors lost in northern passages, Mothers lost bringing life into the world Stories told by ancient wayfarers, Memories kept by a simple northern girl When the winter stormed into the northern skies, They withdrew and watched the dark descend Watched the harbor waves succumbing to the ice, Watched the deaths of old and worn out friends In the cold and quiet solitude, When the wood smoke settled on their world faith and song would give them fortitude, Written down, by a simple northern girl. When the sun returned into the northern skies, Weathered faces lifted up to meet its gaze. As the terns on their way northward fly, stormy nights evolved to sunny days. Then the seas again were plentiful, And the spring renewed their fragile world One more year and one more empty chair, thoughts preserved by a simple northern girl though their lives and ways are gone by now, We still walk the roads that they had lain, We restore the remnants of their homes, Bounty grows in the gardens that remain On the bay the schooners ply the waves, songs once lost are now heard around the world and her words, described as “powerful”, the gentle words of this simple northern girl In the country of the pointed firs Lived a simple northern girl.

I'm So Lucky 04:01
When the sun rises up and the birds start to sing And the morning fills up with sunshine When I open my eyes and I see you there sleepin’ I’m so lucky, my darlin’, your mine. I’m so lucky my dear, after all of these years that I can still call you my own. All our children have grown, and soon there’ll be little ones To add even more love to our home When the moon shines her light and the barn owls are hootin’ and the stars all twinkle and shine When I lay down to rest, I can sleep in the knowing I’m so lucky, my darlin’, you’re mine I’m so lucky my dear, after all of these years that I can still call you my own. All our children have grown, and soon there’ll be little ones To add even more love to our home When our time comes to go, to that great world beyond When we lay down our heads one last time We will walk hand in hand, through that palace of glory I’m so lucky, my darlin’ you’re mine. I’m so lucky my dear, after all of these years that I can still call you my own. All our children have grown, and soon there’ll be little ones To add even more love to our home All our children have grown, and soon there’ll be little ones To add even more love to our home
